Zampini Spins another Gem in 10-1 Win at Delaware Valley

Doylestown, PA (April 29, 2016) – Senior Chris Zampini fired his second complete-game of the season allowing just six hits and one unearned run leading the DeSales University baseball team past Delaware Valley University, 10-1, in the first of three this weekend on Friday afternoon in MAC Freedom action.

The win coupled with Manhattanville dropping its game with Eastern on Friday means DeSales (23-14, 13-6 MAC Freedom) need just one win on Saturday vs. the Aggies (15-18, 4-13 MAC Freedom) to clinch the #2 seed in next weekend's MAC Freedom post-season tournament.

Zampini was terrific on Friday allowing just two runners to reach second base in the game.  DVU scored its lone run in the first inning on a two-out error.  He struck out seven and did not issue a walk, needing just 98 pitches to earn his second complete-game of the season and improve to 5-0 on the year.

DSU took a 2-0 lead in the first inning as senior Alec Hardy knocked in one run with an RBI single and later scored on a wild pitch.  The Bulldogs made it 4-0 in the third when junior Danny Licamara knocked in junior Mike Kacergis with an RBI triple and scored on a throwing error by the centerfielder.

DeSales broke the game open in the sixth scoring four times to take an 8-1 lead.  Licamara hit a solo home run to lead off the inning, freshman Tommy Epsaro had an RBI double and sophomore Conner Lafferty had a two-RBI triple.

DSU had just eight hits in the win but took advantage of 13 walks issued by the Aggie pitching staff.  Lafferty and Licamara each had two RBIs as Licamara finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and the only player with multiple hits in the game for the Bulldogs.

The weekend series finishes up tomorrow when the Bulldogs host the Aggies in a doubleheader set to begin at 1:00 pm at Butz Field.
