Baseball Rallies for 11-5 Win over Manhattanville

Center Valley, PA (April 8, 2016) – The DeSales University baseball team erased a four run deficit with seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning in an 11-5 win over Manhattanville College in MAC Freedom action on Friday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (13-9, 5-3 MAC Freedom) trailed 4-0 after 5 ½ innings as the Valiants (14-7, 6-2 MAC Freedom) scored three times in the third inning and once in the sixth.

The DeSales bats came alive in the bottom of the sixth as the first eight batters reached base, the first six via hit before two walks.  Freshman Tommy Epsaro started the rally with a double down the left field line.  He scored one batter later on an RBI single from junior Tommy DePaul.

After another single from senior Jay Maletz, sophomore Conner Lafferty doubled home DePaul, junior Mike Kacergis knocked in pinch-runner, junior Richie Lancashire, and senior Alec Hardy doubled home Lafferty to tie the score at four.

Two straight walks knocked in Kacergis, another walk by Epsaro plated junior Jesse Smoot, and junior Danny Licamara scored on a fielder's choice to round out the seven-run frame.

MVille got a run back in the top of the seventh but the Bulldogs countered with a three-run bottom half on a three-run bases clearing triple from Epsaro and posted another run in the eighth to provide the final tally.

Junior Tyler Cooperman earned the win, his fifth of the season, pitching 2 1/3 innings of relief allowing just two hits and one run.  Sophomore Adam Donovan pitched well going 5 2/3 innings allowing two earned runs, striking out four.

Lafferty and Hardy each had three hits, while Lafferty, Smoot, and Licamara each scored twice.  Epsaro had two hits and four RBIs and Hardy and DePaul each knocked in two runs.

The Bulldogs are off tomorrow having moved its doubleheader at Manhattanville College to Sunday beginning at 1:00 pm.
