Field Hockey Opens Season with 2-0 Win over Moravian

Center Valley, PA (September 1, 2016) – The DeSales University field hockey team opened its 2016 season with a 2-0 shutout win over local rival Moravian College on Thursday evening under the lights.

The Bulldogs (1-0) dominated play out-shooting the Greyhounds (0-1) 18-2 for the game and holding a 13-2 advantage in penalty corners.

DSU opened the scoring 12:23 into the game when sophomore Chelsea DeFrancisco touched home a redirected rebound from senior Nicola McDermott and DeSales got its insurance goal in the 59th minute when freshman Andrea Baldus re-directed a shot from fellow freshman Kylie Honnick-Payne into the cage.

Freshman Katarina Polyviou made one save to record her first career shutout in her first collegiate game.  The win is just the second shutout win over Moravian with the first coming back in 2010.  DSU is now 5-1 all-time vs. the Greyhounds at home.

The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday when they travel to Gettysburg College for a non-conference tilt beginning at 5:00 pm.
