Hansen Scores Twice in 3-2 Win at William Paterson

Wayne, NJ (September 17, 2016) - Freshman Christie Hansen scored her first two goals of the season including the game-winner in the second overtime lifting the DeSales University field hockey team to its second straight win, 3-2 over William Paterson University on Saturday afternoon.

DSU (3-4) had a 1-0 lead at the half when senior Alexa Beaumont scored her first goal of the season on an assist from freshman Kylie Honnick-Payne just 4:13 into the game.

Just 8:24 into the second-half the Bulldogs lead swelled to two goals when Hansen scored her first marker of the season and the game getting control of a failed clear from a Pioneer (4-3) defender and pushing a shot past the WPU goalkeeper.

William Paterson tied the game with a penalty stroke goal at the 60:19 mark and then the back-breaking goal with just 1:01 left in regulation sending the game into overtime.

Neither team found the back of the cage in the first overtime and with 6:09 left to play in the second OT, Hansen got control of a rebound of her own shot and beat the Pioneer keeper to her left for the game-winner.

WPU had a 20-9 advantage in shots and a 12-5 edge in penalty corners for the game.  Freshman Katarina Polyviou was terrific in goal making 12 saves in the win.

The Bulldogs return home and will be looking to make it three straight wins when they host local rival Muhlenberg College on Wednesday at 4:00 pm.
