Alex Peek floated in a free kick into the box that skimmed a defender's head and went into the net with three seconds left in regulation helping the DeSales University men's soccer team salvage a 1-1 double overtime tie at Muhlenberg College on Wednesday evening.
After a scoreless first-half Muhlenberg (2-3-2) took a 1-0 lead in the 55th minute when
Christian Wieand scored on a penalty kick.
DeSales was awarded a free kick with six seconds left that stopped the clock as a yellow card was given. Peek setup for the free kick just inside midfield and as his kick floated towards the box and several players jumped to get a head on it the ball skimmed off a defender's head into the net with three seconds left tying the score and forcing overtime.
Neither team was able to find the golden goal in either overtime period as the game ended in a tie.
Muhlenberg out-shot DeSales, 13-11, while each team had five shots on goal. DSU had a 5-1 advantange in corner kicks. Junior
Dan Sulpizio made four saves in the game.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday when they host Berkeley College on homecoming beginning at 3:30 pm.
