Center Valley, PA (September 24, 2016) - The DeSales University men's soccer team broke open a scoreless game at the half to earn a 2-0 win over Berkeley College (NJ) in front of a capacity crowd on homecoming Saturday afternoon.
After a scoreless first half DSU (4-4-1) broke the tie in the 61st minute when seniorÂ
Alex Peek sent a long pass over the top to a streaking sophomoreÂ
Michael Kirby who out-raced the Berkeley (6-3) defense to score his second goal of the year giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.
DeSales got the insurance goal just under nine minutes later when Peek again sent a perfect free kick pass into the box from the left sideline where juniorÂ
Joey Malvestuto jumped high in the air to head the ball into the net for his first goal of the season.
Berkeley did have a 19-14 advantage in shots but DeSales shots were far more dangerous holding a 10-6 edge in shots on goal. Â Berkeley had a 9-5 edge in corner kicks.
JuniorÂ
Dan Sulpizio made six saves to earn his first shutout of the season in the win.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Wednesday when they host Albright College with game time set for 4:00 pm.
