Volleyball Splits on Day Two of Worthington Classic

Washington DC (September 24, 2016) - The DeSales University volleyball team wrapped up its weekend tournament at the Worthington Classic hosted by Gallaudet University splitting two matches on Saturday including a 3-0 win over Wesley College and a 3-1 loss to host Gallaudet University.

Match #1 (W/3-0 vs. Wesley)
The Bulldogs (10-5) controlled play in this match hitting .340 as a team and rolling up 42 kills in three sets for the win.

Sophomore Gabby Savite` finished with 13 kills and 13 digs, while freshman Morgan Shoemaker pounded down 10 kills and added three blocks.  Senior Jess Swanson added nine kills and fellow senior Lisa Wallitsch finished with 33 assists and three blocks in the win.  Savite` also had five aces.

Match #2 (L/1-3 vs. Gallaudet)
After winning the first set, 25-22, DSU dropped the second 25-14 and fell behind in the third 6-0.  The Bulldogs battled back in the second set down 19-14 to tie the score at 19 and took a 23-22 lead before Gallaudet scored the next three points to win 25-23.  In the fourth set DSU trailed 24-20 before tying the match 24 all.  DeSales had a set point at 26-25 and 27-26 but were unable to get the winning point falling 30-28 in the decisive set.

Shoemaker led the charge with 13 kills and hit .480 for the match.  Sophomore Taylor Antoniewicz finished with 12 kills and hit .455 for the match, while Savite` added 10 kills and 14 digs.  Wallitsch posted a double-double with 39 assists and 10 digs, while sophomore Natalie Gray (14 digs) and freshman Cristal Fernandez (10 digs) led the charge on defense.

The Bulldogs are back in action when they host Eastern University on Wednesday evening in Billera Hall in a MAC Freedom title rematch from the last several years.

Wallitsch was the lone Bulldog named to the All-Tournament Team.
