Women's Soccer Falls to #18 NYU, 4-2

Center Valley, PA (September 24, 2016) - The DeSales University women's soccer team took a 1-0 lead but ultimately couldn't hold on falling to 18th ranked NYU, 4-2, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (4-5) scored first in the 29th minute when junior Angelica Bertola fired a shot just outside the box inside the upper 90 off a feed from junior Isabel McPeak giving DSU a 1-0 lead.

That lead stood into the 39th minute when the Violets (6-1-1) got the tying marker on a beautiful shot off the foot from Alex Benedict that beat the DSU keeper high and to her left.  Just 2:18 later NYU took the lead for good as Olivia Braender-Carr slipped a low shot just past a sliding Bulldog keeper to make it a 2-1 game at the half.

New York University got its insurance goal three minutes into the second-half but DSU erased the two-goal deficit when junior Rachel Logue scored on a PK at 65:35.  NYU got the insurance tally back in the 78th minute as the final margin was posted.

The Violets had a 19-7 advantage in shots, 8-4 in shots on goal.  NYU took six of the seven corner kicks in the game.  Sophomore Haley Jacobs made four saves for the Bulldogs.

DSU is back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Muhlenberg College for another non-conference game beginning at 7:00 pm.
