Center Valley, PA (September 3, 2016) – Oswego State broke a tie at two with a goal in the 86
th minute to earn a 3-2 win over the DeSales University women's soccer team in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.
Oswego (1-0) took an early 2-0 lead taking advantage of two Bulldog (1-1) turnovers on defense in the second and seventh minute to score goals. That score remained into the half as Oswego State enjoyed a 5-3 shot advantage in the first-half.
DSU tied the game mid-way thru the second-half. The first goal came at 56:27 when senior
Jess Wetherhold was tripped in the box and junior
Rachel Logue converted the penalty kick to make it a 2-1 game.
Just 7:08 later junior
Danni Engwall scored her second goal of the season taking a pass from Wetherhold and slotting a shot just under the Laker keeper to tie the game at two.
The game-winner came with 4:28 left to play as
Emma Geyer played a pass to
Sarah Grupp who was unmarked about seven yards outside the box in the middle of the field. She sent a line drive shot towards the net that DSU goalkeeper
Emily Hoats was unable to grab and the Bulldogs were unable to find the tying marker in the final minutes.
Oswego State held a slim 9-8 edge in shots and 4-3 edge in corner kicks in the win. Hoats finished with three saves for the Bulldogs in goal.
The Bulldogs are right back in action tomorrow when they face New Jersey City University for another non-conference beginning at Noon.
