Angelica Bertola scored three goals leading the DeSales University women's soccer team to a 5-1 win over New Jersey City University in non-conference action on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.
The Bulldogs (2-1) rebound one day after suffering a 3-2 loss late to Oswego State, dominating the Gothic Knights (0-1-1), holding a 25-2 advantage in shots and taking the only three corner kicks of the game.
Sophomore
Caroline Nealon got DSU on the board scoring from about five yards outside the box just 6:58 into the game. Junior
Danni Engwall and freshman
Meghan Williams each earned assists on the goal.
Bertola made it a two goal game in the 22nd minute taking a long pass from junior
Jess Wetherhold, dribbling around two NJCU defenders, and beating the Gothic Knight keeper inside the near post.
Freshman
Sydney Amato finished off the first-half scoring in the 33rd minute breaking free on a long pass over the top from senior
Esther Younger creating a 1-v-1 with the keeper for her first career goal.
Bertola then added two more goals in the second-half with the first coming off a feed from Engwall and the second on a terrific pass from Wetherhold giving her seven tallies in the first three games this season.
NJCU got on the board in the 83rd minute after being awarded a PK in which
Maria Calle cashed in on to finish off the scoring.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Albright College for a non-conference game beginning at 7:00 pm.
