Kuity Slanger had a season-high 19 points and sophomore
Luke Connaghan added a career-high 13 tallies leading the DeSales University men's basketball team to its eighth straight win, 69-53, over Manhattanville College in MAC Freedom action on Wednesday evening in Billera Hall.
The eight-game winning streak is DSU's (11-3, 3-0 MAC Freedom) longest since a nine-game streak during the 2012-13 season. Slanger scored 13 of DSU's first 16 points and finished with seven rebounds and five assists to go along with his 19 points. Connaghan shot 5-for-7 from the field and added six rebounds off the bench. Senior
Brandon Bridy continued to excel on the glass pulling down a game-high nine rebounds and senior
Ryan Callahan had nine points and six caroms.
MVC (5-9, 1-2 MAC Freedom) got 11 points from both
Alex Tuci and
Willie Britton in the loss.
Manhattanville led for a good portion of the first-half and for the last time at 25-24 after a 3 from
Jojo Cobbs before a 9-2 run to end the half for the Bulldogs gave DSU a 33-27 halftime lead.
After trading mini runs to open the second-half DeSales used a 16-6 spurt midway thru half extending a six-point lead into a 16-point advantage (55-39) and the lead never fell below double digits the rest of the way. Six different players scored during the run including Connaghan and freshman
Tracy Simsick who each tallied four points.
DeSales dominated the paint in the win out-scoring Manhattanville, 44-20, in the lane and holding a 42-26 advantage on the glass.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday when they travel to FDU-Florham for another MAC Freedom game set to begin at 1:00 pm.
