Women's Soccer Rolls past Manhattanville, 4-0

Purchase, NY (October 10, 2017) - The DeSales University women's soccer team rebounded Tuesday afternoon earning a 4-0 win at Manhattanville College in MAC Freedom action.

Junior Caroline Nealon (Malverne, NY) opened the scoring, her first tally of the year, with just over six minutes left in the opening half taking a pass from freshman Josie Davis-Allen (Springfield, VA) to give DSU a 1-0 halftime lead.

Sophomore Sydney Amato (East Rockaway, NY) made it a two goal game at 59:30 when freshman Rachel Medlar (Coplay, PA) found sophomore Barbara Pizarro (Olney, MD) in the middle of the field who touched a pass to Amato at the top of the box where her shot beat the Valiant keeper inside the near post.  It was Medlar's 10th assist of the season, one shy of tying the single-season record of 11 helpers.

Medlar then got into the scoring act, netting her third goal of the season, scoring from about 20 yards out with a shot high over the GK's head under the crossbar.

Senior Angelica Bertola (East Stroudsburg, PA) capped off the win with her team leading 16th goal of the season touching a pass thru the Valiant defense from freshman Anja Wilson (Chesterfield, VA).  It was Bertola's 111th career point moving her just two shy of tying the all-time record held be Hall of Famer Jeneen Covely.  She is also just one goal shy of moving into a tie for second place all-time with 47 career goals.

Freshman Lia Gaccione (Sparta, NJ) made five saves recording her first career shutout in between the pipes.

DSU out-shot MVC, 15-6, and took the only three corner kicks of the game.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday when they host Wilkes University in another MAC Freedom game on senior day with start time set for 1:00 pm.
