Volleyball Drops Tight 3-1 Match with Clarkson

Center Valley, PA (October 13, 2017) - The DeSales University volleyball team saw its five-match winning streak come to an end falling to Clarkson University, 3-1 (28-26, 25-27, 25-21, 25-21), in a tightly contested match on Friday evening in Billera Hall.

The first set featured a total of 15 ties and 10 lead changes and saw both teams earn set points before the Golden Knights finally took the set, 28-26.  The second set saw the Bulldogs race out to a 9-1 lead only to see Clarkson climb all the way back into the match late before the Bulldogs squeezed out a 27-25 win.  Clarkson then took the next two sets by identical 25-21 scores, totaling 32 of its 55 kills in the last two sets.

Leading DeSales (15-6) was junior Gabby Savite` (Hackettstown, NJ) with yet another double-double totaling 14 kills and 23 digs.  Freshman Noel Kelly (Saylorsburg, PA) had 12 kills and hit .346 for the match and added six blocks, while sophomore Morghan Shoemaker (Allentown, PA) finished with eight kills and seven blocks in the middle.  Freshman Grace Merritt (Newark, DE) just missed double digit kills with nine.

Junior Natalie Gray (Aston, PA) played terrific in the back row finishing with 23 digs and four service aces, sophomore Taylor Aron (Sinking Spring, PA) added 15 digs, and sophomore Cristal Fernandez (Whitehall, PA) also played well with 12 digs.  Sophomore Jess Smith (Bethlehem, PA) orchestrated the offense once again, totaling 43 assists and two aces.

The Bulldogs are back in action tomorrow when they host Arcadia University and Randolph College in a home tri-match beginning at 1:00 pm.
