Center Valley, PA (October 14, 2017) - The DeSales University volleyball team split a home tri-match on Saturday afternoon defeating Randolph College, 3-1, after falling to Arcadia University, 3-1, in the first match of the day.
Match #1 (L/1-3 vs. Arcadia University)
DeSales took the first set from the Knights in convincing fashion, 25-15, but dropped a tight second set, 25-23, before AU took control winning 25-17 and 25-11 in the final two sets.
Sophomore
Morghan Shoemaker (Allentown, PA) was the only Bulldog with double digit kills totaling 11 and hit .276 for the match. Â She also added four blocks. Â Junior
Taylor Antoniewicz (Cranford, NJ)added seven kills and junior
Natalie Gray (Aston, PA) finished with 18 digs. Â Sophomroe
Cristal Fernandez (Whitehall, PA) had 10 digs.
Match #2 (W/3-1 vs. Randolph College)
Opposite the first match, DSU dropped the first set, 25-23, that featured 11 ties and three lead changes before taking control winning sets 2-4 by scores of 25-15, 25-17, 26-24 to earn the win. Â DSU hit .226 for the match.
Shoemaker again led the charge with 12 and four blocks, hitting .364. Â Junior
Gabby Savite` (Hackettstown, NJ) had another double-double with 12 kills and 14 digs and freshman
Grace Merritt (Newark, DE) played well pounding down 11 kills and hitting .333. Â Freshman
Noel Kelly (Saylorsburg, PA) added nine kills.
Gray and Fernandez each had 11 digs, with Gray totaling three aces, and sophomore
Jess Smith (Bethlehem, PA) handed out 41 assists in the win.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Tuesday with an important MAC Freedom road match at Manhattanville College beginning at 7:00 pm.
