Volleyball Clinches Top Seed with 3-0 Win at Manhattanville

Purchase, NY (October 17, 2017) - The DeSales University volleyball team clinched the top seed in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament with a 3-0 win at Manhattanville College on Tuesday evening in Kennedy Gymnasium.

The Bulldogs (17-7, 6-0 MAC Freedom) will be the top seed for the first time since the 2007 season, the same year DSU last won the MAC Freedom championship.  DSU is just one win shy (Wed. the 25th vs. King's College) of posting a perfect 7-0 regular season record.

DeSales started slowly on Tuesday, trailing the Valiants, 17-11, before freshman Julia Bradford (Mertztown, PA) served 12 straight points to give the Bulldogs a 23-17 lead that eventually ended in a 25-21 first set win.  DSU hurt themselves committing nine hitting errors in the first set but rebounded from that performance finishing the match with 29 kills and just two errors over the final two sets to take the match with a 25-19 second set win and a 25-21 third set win.

The Bulldogs hit .231 for the match despite posting a .000 hitting percentage in the first set.  Freshman Noel Kelly (Saylorsburg, PA) totaled 13 kills and hit .297, sophomore Morghan Shoemaker (Allentown, PA) had 10 kills and hit .348, and junior Gabby Savite` (Hackettstown, NJ) had eight kills and hit .200.

Savite` added 13 digs and four blocks and Bradford returned from injury to post 33 assists and four aces in the win.  Junior Natalie Gray (Aston, PA) led the defense with 20 digs and added two aces.

The Bulldogs are back in action this weekend traveling to the Carnegie Mellon University Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
