Pittsburgh, PA (October 20, 2017) - The DeSales University volleyball team opened up its weekend tournament at Carnegie Mellon University with a 3-1 win over Haverford College (25-21, 20-25, 26-24, 25-18).
The Bulldogs hit .345 in the first set erasing a 7-4 deficit with six straight points and led the rest of the way. DSU fell behind early in the second set, trailing 6-1, before battling back to tie the set at 13 and took a 15-13 lead before the Fords rallied to take the set, 25-20.
In the third set DeSales trailed 24-21 before rallying for five straight points to take the set, 26-24, and rode that momentum into the fourth set to win easily 25-18, hitting .412 with 16 kills and just two errors in the final set.
Junior
Gabby Savite` (Hackettstown, NJ) led the charge with another double-double totaling 18 kills and 18 digs. Sophomore
Morghan Shoemaker (Allentown, PA) had 16 kills and four blocks hitting .481 and freshman
Noel Kelly (Saylorsburg, PA) had 11 kills and five blocks, hitting .345.
Junior
Taylor Antoniewicz (Cranford, NJ) added six kills and three blocks, freshman
Julia Bradford (Mertztown, PA) had 51 assists, and junior
Natalie Gray (Aston, PA) finished with 28 digs in the win. Sophomore
Cristal Fernandez (Whitehall, PA) added 11 digs.
The Bulldogs are back in action tomorrow when they take on Denison University and Cabrini University on day two of the Carnegie Mellon University Tournament.
