Volleyball Splits on Day Two of Carnegie Mellon Tournament

Pittsburgh, PA (October 21, 2017) - The DeSales University volleyball team split two matches on day two of the Carnegie Mellon University Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

Match #1 (W/3-2 vs. Denison University)
The Bulldogs rallied from a 2-1 deficit to win sets four and five to earn the 3-2 win.  DSU committed just two hitting errors over the final two sets hitting .395 in the fourth set and .450 in the fifth set to complete the comeback.

Four players had double digit kills including freshman Noel Kelly (Saylorsburg, PA) with 22 kills and a .362 hitting percentage.  Junior Gabby Savite` (Hackettstown, NJ) had 16 kills and 18 digs, while hitting .264, freshman Grace Merritt (Newark, DE) had 13 kills and hit .393, and sophomore Morghan Shoemaker (Allentown, PA) finished with 10 kills and three blocks.

Freshman Julia Bradford (Mertztown, PA) finished with 57 assists and junior Natalie Gray (Aston, PA) totaled 29 digs in the win.

Match #2 (L/0-3 vs. Cabrini University)
DeSales dropped all three sets to the Cavaliers falling 25-20 in all three sets.

Savite` had 14 kills and hit .273 and Kelly added 11 kills in the loss.  Merritt also played well with six kills and a .312 hitting percentage, while Bradford (35 assists) and Gray (16 digs) also posted solid numbers.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Thursday when they finish up the MAC Freedom regular season hosting King's College in Billera Hall at 7:00 pm.
