Center Valley, PA (October 14, 2017) - The DeSales University field hockey team came up just short on Saturday morning falling to FDU-Florham, 2-1, in overtime in MAC Freedom action.
The Bulldogs (8-6, 2-2 MAC Freedom) took a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute when sophomore
Madison Brader (Coopersburg, PA) scored off a pass from sophomore
Kylie Honnick-Payne (Johnson City, NY) off a penalty corner when Brader's shot deflected past the Devil (11-4, 4-0 MAC Freedom) goalkeeper for a lead that stood into halftime.
FDU tied the game at 46:48 whenÂ
Maggie Sohns took control of a turnover just outside the circle and her shot skidded under the goalkeepers pads from just inside the circle.
DSU had the best opportunity to win the game late in the second half when sophomore
Christie Hansen (San Diego, CA) had a shot saved off the line by an FDU defender, the second defensive save in the game for the Devils.
In overtime Florham found the game-winner whenÂ
Marie Pietracatella was in position for a centering pass as her touch just sneaked past the Bulldogs keeper 3:28 into the overtime period.
FDU had a 13-7 advantage in shots, while the Bulldogs had a 9-8 edge in penalty corners for the game. Â Sophomore
Katarina Polyviou (Cranford, NJ)Â made four saves for DeSales.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Manhattanville College for a very important MAC Freedom game set to begin at 7:00 pm.
