Center Valley, PA (October 18, 2017) - Senior
Angelica Bertola (East Stroudsburg, PA) became the all-time leading scorer in women's soccer history scoring four goals and adding an assist leading the DeSales University women's soccer team past Delaware Valley University 8-0 in MAC Freedom action on Wednesday afternoon.
Most importantly the win moves DSU to within just one point (a win or a tie) in its last two games of clinching a spot in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament.  The Bulldogs do control their own destiny in earning a postseason home game needing just two wins in their last two games to secure no worse than the #2 seed. DeSales has now won three straight and improves to 9-6 overall and 4-1 in the MAC Freedom.
Bertola registered four goals and one assist in the win. Â The nine points breaks the single-game points record. Â She also moved into first place all by herself with 122 career points and ties DeSales' Hall of FamerÂ
Jeneen Covely for the all-time lead in career goals with 51.  Lastly she now owns the single-season points mark with 48 this season (21g, 6a).
She wasn't the only one to break a record on Wednesday as freshman
Rachel Medlar (Coplay, PA) broke the single-season assist mark with two helpers giving her 13 on the season breaking the previous record of 11 byÂ
Jess Wetherhold.
DeSales dominated this game out-shooting Delaware Valley, 25-5, and taking all six corner kicks. Â Freshman
Lia Gaccione (Sparta, NJ) and junior
Haley Jacobs (Bloomsbury, NJ) each made one save helping the Bulldogs record its third straight shutout.
Bertola opened the scoring at 14:48 scoring unassisted after receiving a long pass in the box from senior
Rachel Logue (Burlington, NJ), beating a defender, and firing a shot. Â Just over 11 minutes she tallied her second, taking a pass from senior
Gabby Lucchese (Gilbert, PA)Â and scoring. Junior
Erin Crystal (Parsippany, NJ) finished off the scoring in the first-half just 2:59 after Bertola's second off another assist from Lucchese.
Bertola earned her hat trick 5:05 into the second-half with another unassisted goal and Medlar got into the scoring act when her shot scooted under the goalkeeper's legs on a shot from 25 yards out. Â Bertola netted her fourth on a feed from Medlar at 54:27 and sophomore
Sydney Amato (East Rockaway, NY) scored the final two goals at 65:37 and 81:40 with Medlar earning an assist on the first one.
The Bulldogs first attempt at clinching a playoff spot will come Saturday when they travel to King's College for a 1:00 pm kickoff.
