Women's Soccer Tops Elizabethtown, 2-1; Bertola Nets Both Goals

Elizabethtown, PA (October 24, 2017) - Senior Angelica Bertola (East Stroudsburg, PA) scored two more goals leading the DeSales University women's soccer team past Elizabethtown College, 2-1, in a non-conference game on Tuesday evening.

The win moves DeSales to 10-6 overall marking just the fifth time in team history and the third time in the last four seasons DSU has won 10+ games in a season.

Bertola got the Bulldogs on the scoreboard at 14:15 taking a pass from freshman Rachel Medlar (Coplay, PA) and beating the goalkeeper 1-v-1 in the box.  It was Medlar's single-season record 14th assist of the year.

The Bluejays (8-6-1) tied the game at 27:52 on a goal from Lydia Lawson after a feed from Janelle Barna as that score stood into the half.

Bertola got the game-winner at 52:57 unassisted for her 23rd of the season.  She now owns nearly every scoring record in DeSales history including career points (126), career goals (53), points in a game (9), single-season goals (23), single-season points (52).

Junior Haley Jacobs (Bloomsbury, NJ) and freshman Lia Gaccione (Sparta, NJ) each played a half and each made three saves in the win.

DSU out-shot Elizabethtown, 13-12, and the Bluejays had all eight corner kicks in the game.

DSU is back in action on Saturday when they travel to Eastern University for a MAC Freedom game needing a win or a tie to earn a spot in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament next week.
