St. David's, PA (October 28, 2017) - Senior
Angelica Bertola (East Stroudsburg, PA) scored two more goals and the DeSales University women's soccer team claimed the fourth and final spot in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament with a 3-1 win over Eastern University on Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs will enter the postseason as the #3 seed and will travel to Misericordia University on Tuesday evening with game time set for 7:00 pm.
Bertola scored goals #24 and 25 in the first-half on Saturday giving DSU a 2-0 halftime lead. She netted the first in the 26th minute, one-timing a pass to the back post by freshman
Rachel Medlar (Coplay, PA) inside the far corner and deposited the second when a failed clear fell to her foot and she booted a ball just under the crossbar over the keeper's head. The assist on the first goal was Medlar's school-record 15th of the year.
Medlar then got into the scoring act in the 75th minute scoring on a floater to the back post from 20 yards out off an assist from sophomore
Barbara Pizarro (Olney, MD).
Eastern got on the board and avoided the shutout in the 80th minute but was unable to find the back of the net again.
DeSales dominated most of the play out-shooting the Eagles (7-7-4, 4-2-1 MAC Freedom), 20-6, and holding a slim 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
