Center Valley, PA (October 4, 2017) - The DeSales University men's soccer team saw its nine-game win streak come to an end settling for a 3-3 double overtime tie with William Paterson University in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon.
The Bulldogs (9-1-1) are now unbeaten in their last 10 games, tying the team record set during the 2011 season. Â Also senior
Dan Sulpizio (Philadelphia, PA) broke the consecutive scoreless streak for an individual goalie holding the Pioneers (9-2-1) without a goal for the first 57:22 of the game and thus extending his streak to 627:14, just seven minutes more than the previous record of 620+ minutes held byÂ
Adam Franczak.
Both teams went scoreless in the first-half before the flood gates opened in the second half on the offensive end.
Junior
Michael Kirby (Bensalem, PA) started the scoring at 54:34 taking a centering pass from sophomore
Javaughn Hussett (Whitehall, PA) that went all the way thru the box to the back post where Kirby slotted a pass thru the goalkeeper's five hole giving DSU a 1-0 lead.
It took just 2:48 for WPU to tie the game whenÂ
Keysean Brant-Sharp dribbled thru the defense and beat Sulpizio low.
DeSales regained the one goal lead in the 74th minute when Kirby drew a foul in the box and junior
Justin Habick (Effort, PA) scored on the ensuing PK, his third PK of the season but once again it didn't take Paterson long to tie the game, scoring just 3:41 after DSU's second goal.
Habick gave DSU its third lead of the game at 85:56, as a loose ball in the box came right to him and his shot snuck inside the near post.
DeSales was literally seconds away from its 10th straight win before a foul at the top of the box with 16 seconds left to play gave the visitors a penalty kick andÂ
JP Gonzales scored high and to the left tying the game and forcing overtime.
William Paterson hit the post during the first OT and both teams had chances to score but neither could find the back of the net settling for the tie.
WPU had a 20-15 edge in shots and an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Sulpizio finished the game with nine saves in the tie.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Misericordia University for a MAC Freedom game set to begin at 7:30 pm.
