Women's Hoops Takes Morgan Stanley Tip-off Tournament Title, 79-40, over Lancaster Bible

Center Valley, PA (November 19, 2017) - The DeSales University women's basketball team forced 40+ turnovers for the third straight game in a 79-40 win over Lancaster Bible College in the championship game of the Morgan Stanley (Easton office) Tip-off Tournament on Sunday afternoon.

Twelve different players scored for the Bulldogs (3-0) led by junior Leandra Sterner (Northampton, PA) with a game-high 18 points and a career-high seven assists.  Seniors Angelica Bertola (East Stroudsburg, PA) and Kaitlin Kelly (Newtown, PA) each had nine points, with Bertola adding five steals, and junior Morgan Birmelin (Honesdale, PA) finished with seven points, five assists, four rebounds, and seven steals.  Freshman Kristina Polak (Bethlehem, PA) also played well off the bench with eight points and five rebounds.  Birmelin earned Tournament Most Valuable Player honors and Bertola and Sterner were also named to the All-Tournament Team.

Kaitlin Hickey led the Chargers (1-2) with 17 points and Kirsten Webster finished with 11 points, earning All-Tournament Team honors.  Courtney Goyak finished with seven points and 18 rebounds in the loss.

The Bulldogs took control of the game finishing the first quarter on a 10-2 run to take an 18-8 lead after 10 minutes of play.  Sterner had four points during the run to lead the way.

LBC was within seven points (21-14) at the 5:49 mark but DSU closed the half on a 15-6 run to take a commanding 36-20 into the locker room.  Kelly highlighted this run with seven straight points during the spurt.

The second-half was all Bulldogs as DeSales out-scored the Chargers 30-8 in the third quarter and never looked back from there.

DSU shot 47.3 percent from the field and forced 41 turnovers leading to 38 points.  It is the third straight game DeSales has forced 40+ turnovers this season.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Tuesday when they host Moravian College with game time set for 6:00 pm.
