Field Hockey Falls to Misericordia, 2-0, in MAC Freedom Championship

Dallas, PA (November 4, 2017) - The DeSales University field hockey team fell to Misericordia University, 2-0, on two late goals in the MAC Freedom Championship game on Saturday evening.

The loss drops the Bulldogs to 12-8 overall.  DSU awaits a possible bid into the ECAC Tournament which will be announced on Monday afternoon.

After a scoreless first-half that didn't see either team seriously threaten inside the circle, DSU had the best scoring chance with just under 10 minutes left to play.  Off a corner sophomore Kylie Honnick-Payne (Johnson City, NY) sent a hard shot at the goal that was saved by the Cougar goalkeeper.  The rebound went right to sophomore Christie Hansen (San Diego, CA) on the right post and she lifted a gorgeous shot towards an open cage but the Cougar keeper recovered and made a diving save with her blocker knocking the ball away.

With just over six minutes left the Bulldogs received a green card and had to play a man down as Misericordia earned a penalty corner.

On the ensuing corner the intial shot was saved by sophomore Katarina Polyviou (Cranford, NJ) and the rebound was cleared hard out towards the top of the circle but MU's Kayla Pogash was there and fired another shot back at the goal and the ball was lifted into the air over Polyviou's head off a defenders stick for the game's first goal.

Misericordia added an insurance goal off a corner just over two minutes later and the Bulldogs were unable to recover late.

Polyviou finished the game with six saves for DeSales.
