Union, NJ (February 24, 2017) - The DeSales University softball team opened up its 2017 season on Friday afternoon dropping both ends of a doubleheader by identical 8-0 scores to Kean University on an unseasonably warm February afternoon.
Game One
Kean scored once in the first, twice in the third, and once in the fifth to lead 4-0 and capped off the win with a four-run bottom of the sixth inning.
DSU got three hits, all singles, from freshmanÂ
Erin Redden, juniorÂ
Haley Frati, and sophomoreÂ
Madeleine Nasir in the loss.  DSU did load the bases with one out in the top of the fourth inning but a strikeout and ground out ended the threat.
SophomoreÂ
Andrea Artesani took the loss allowing seven earned over 5 1/3 innings of work.
Game Two
Kean broke open a scoreless game with a five-run third inning and added two more in the fourth and one in the sixth for the win.
DSU had three more hits, all singles once again, by Frati, sophomoreÂ
Leann Panconi, and Artesani.
JuniorÂ
Hailey Warner took the loss allowing five earned over four innings of work.
The Bulldogs are back in action in two weeks when they travel to Florida for Spring Break to play eight games in four days.
