Center Valley, PA (February 24, 2017) - The DeSales University women's lacrosse team fell just short in the very first game in team history falling to Keystone College, 12-11, in a non-conference game on a gorgeous Friday afternoon in the season opener for both teams.
DSU trailed 3-1 early but scored three straight goals to take a 4-3 lead. Â The Giants tied the game at four and the two teams traded goals over the final 2:42 of the half as the game was tied at six after one half of play.
KC scored twice to open the second-half taking an 8-6 lead and once again the two teams traded goals over the next six scores as Keystone clung to a 11-9 lead. Â JuniorÂ
Kelly Meade scored her second goal of the game with 7:44 to go and juniorÂ
Sydney Mursko scored on a free position shot just 39 seconds later to tie the game at 11.
The Giants broke the tie at the 5:35 mark and played keepaway from the Bulldogs over the last two minutes of the game to steal a win in DSU's inaugural game.

Danielle Burke was tremendous in the loss scoring four goals and adding an assist to go along with a game-high nine draw controls in the loss.  FreshmanÂ
Katie Kingsland also had four goals and one assist including the first-ever goal in team history tying the score at one early.  Meade finished with two goals and Mursko added an assist to her one goal.  SophomoreÂ
Amanda Foley had an assist.

Mary O'Malley led the way with five ground balls and forced three turnovers and sophomoreÂ
Lori King totaled 10 saves in between the pipes.
DSU outshot Keystone, 38-28, but was a bit unlucky hitting three posts and one crossbar for the game. Â DSU won 17 of 25 draw controls. Â Keystone was 5-for-8 in free position shots, while the Bulldogs converted just 2-of-6.
DeSales returns to action on Monday when they travel to Drew University for another non-conference game set to begin at 4:30 pm.
