Men's Lacrosse Comeback Falls Short in 13-8 Loss at Elizabethtown in Season Opener

Elizabethtown, PA (February 26, 2017) - The DeSales University men's lacrosse team scored four straight goals to end the third and start the fourth quarter to pull within one goal but Elizabethtown College ended the game with four straight tallies to earn a 13-8 win in the Bulldogs season opener on the road on Sunday afternoon.

DSU (0-1) led 2-1 and were tied at three after a man-down goal from senior Justin Wilson before the Blue Jays scored six of the next seven goals to take a 9-4 lead with 3:46 left in the third quarter.

The Bulldogs responded as junior Bryan Weber scored twice to end the third quarter and freshman Eric Magro and Weber scored back-to-back to start the fourth quarter pulling DSU within one goal (9-8) with 11:38 remaining.  DeSales won the ensuing face-off and had two shots to tie the game but the second was saved and ETown raced down the field on the counter breaking the DSU spurt and strarting its own 4-0 run to end the game.

Weber finished the game with four goals and one assist and Wilson had three goals to lead the way.  Magro had his first career goal and freshman Justin Monaghan and junior Josh Harman each had an assist in the loss.

Senior Jake McNamara won 11-of-24 face-offs and freshman Frank Krug played well with four ground balls and a team-high four caused turnovers.  Sophomore Matt Barry made 11 saves and had five ground balls in between the pipes.

Elizabethtown (2-1) out-shot DeSales, 40-29, and held a decisive 47-31 advantage in ground balls.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Wednesday as they travel to Arcadia University for another non-conference game set to begin at 4:00 pm.
