Defense Leads Men's Lacrosse to 3-2 Win over Gwynedd-Mercy

Center Valley, PA (March 18, 2017) - Freshman Frank Krug forced seven turnovers and sophomore Matt Barry made eight saves leading the DeSales University men's lacrosse team to a 3-2 win over Gwynedd-Mercy University in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs caused 22 of GMU's 27 turnovers in the game and committed just 18 miscues themselves.  DSU (2-3) took a 2-0 lead with the only goals of the first-half by senior Justin Wilson and freshman Eric Magro off assists from from freshmen Kevin Monaghan and Justin Monaghan.

GMU (1-4) scored the only goal of the third quarter but the Bulldogs got it back on Magro's second of the game 3:39 into the fourth quarter. The Griffins got back within one tally with just 1:48 left to play but DeSales forced a turnover just after a Gwynedd face-off win and nearly ran out the clock turning it over on a shot clock violation with just 7 seconds left and GMU was unable to get a good shot before the final horn.

Krug and junior Jake Zito each led the charge with six ground balls.  Senior Sean Palen had four caused turnovers and had three ground balls and senior Jake McNamara won three face-offs and had four ground balls.

The Bulldogs are back in action a week from today traveling to Widener University for another non-conference game beginning at 1:00 pm.
