Schuler/Kroeger Lead Baseball to DH Sweep of Wilkes

Center Valley, PA (March 25, 2017) - Senior Andrew Schuler and sophomore Austin Kroeger each earned wins combining to allow just two unearned runs over 11 innings to lead baseball to a doubleheader sweep of Wilkes University in MAC Freedom action on Saturday afternoon at Butz Field.

Game One (W/2-1)
Schuler was outstanding in game one allowing just four hits and one unearned run over seven innings recording his second straight complete-game win for the Bulldogs (6-7, 2-0 MAC Freedom).  He ran into trouble just once in the fourth inning when a one-out error led to a two-out run giving Wilkes a 1-0 lead.  Schuler did not allow a runner to reach second base in any of the other six frames.

DSU quickly erased the 1-0 deficit in the fourth with a solo tally in the bottom of the inning when senior Richie Lancashire doubled home DeSales' first run of the game. The Bulldogs took the lead for good one inning later when senior Tyler Sweeney singled home junior Hunter Hart.

Schuler did the rest earning his second win of the season, striking out six and walking just two.  Hart had two hits to lead the seven hit attack.

Game Two (W/6-3)
DSU took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a bloop RBI single from sophomore Nick White before Wilkes scored twice in the top of the second inning chasing junior starter Adam Donovan.  Kroeger got a strikeout to strand the bases loaded ending the threat and the Bulldogs tied the game in the bottom of the frame on an RBI single from Hart.

DeSales took the lead for good in the third when junior Conner Lafferty had a two-out, two-RBI single and after the Colonels got within a run in the top of the sixth inning Sweeney had an RBI triple and scored on a throwing error a few batters later to provide the insurance runs in the three-run win.

Kroeger earned the win pitching four oustanding innings of relief allowing just three hits and striking out five.  Senior Tyler Cooperman earned his first save of the year getting the last four outs, allowing just one walk.

Hart had two more hits, sophomore Tommy Epsaro went 2-for-2 and senior Danny Licamara was 3-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored in the game two win.

The Bulldogs will be back in action tomorrow when they host Wilkes in the third and final game of the weekend three-game set beginning at 1:00 pm at Butz Field.
