Center Valley, PA (March 25, 2017) - Junior
Haley Frati RBI single in the top of the seventh inning led the DeSales University softball team to a game one win and a doubleheader split with Wilkes University on Saturday afternoon.
Game One (W/6-5)
The Bulldogs (5-7, 1-1 MAC Freedom) jumped out early in the opener taking a 5-0 lead after 2 and a half innings after a solo home run from sophomore
Carly Benjamin and four runs in the third inning that included a two-RBI double from Benjamin and two Wilkes errors.
Wilkes (8-2, 1-1 MAC Freedom) climbed all the way back with three runs in the bottom of the third innng and two more in the fourth inning to tie the score at five.
The game remained tied into the seventh inning when junior
Andrea Artesani singled to lead off the inning. She moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from freshman
Emma Izzo and scored two batters later on a single from Frati.
Freshman
Shannon Hill did the rest pitching a perfect seventh inning to earn her first career win totaling three scoreless innings allowing just one hit and striking out one. Benjamin finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Artesani was 2-for-2 at the plate with a walk.
Game Two (L/2-10)
Wilkes scored once in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead before DSU scored once in the second and third frames on a solo home run from senior
Alexa Beaumont, the 17th of her career, and a Colonol error in the third inning.
WU took a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning and it remained a one-run game into the bottom of the sixth inning when Wilkes broke it open with seven unearned runs after consecutive DSU errors at the start of the inning to post the final tally.
Artesani suffered the loss allowing 10 hits and two earned runs over 5 2/3 innings pitched. Sophomore
Leann Panconi led the seven-hit attack with two hits.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Montclair State University for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 pm.
