Elizabethtown, PA (Marh 29, 2017) - Sophomore
Madeleine Nasir hits two home runs and drove in six runs leading the DeSales University softball team to a doubleheader sweep at Elizabethtown College, 6-3, and 8-6, in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon.
Game One (W/6-3 - 8 Innings)
DSU (7-7) erased an early 1-0 deficit, taking a 3-1 lead with one run in the fourth inning on an RBI single from sophomore
Carly Benjamin and two in the fifth on a two-RBI single from junior
Haley Frati.
The Bulldogs continued to lead by one entering the bottom of the seventh inning when the Blue Jays (3-15) got one run to tie the game at three sending it into extra innings.
In the eighth, freshman
Madison Sias knocked home senior
Alexa Beaumont to give DSU a 4-3 lead and Nasir provided the insurance with a two-run home run to post the final tally.
Junior
Hailey Warner earned her third win of the season allowing two earned over seven innings, while freshman
Shannon Hill pitched a perfect eighth inning to earn her first career save. Freshman
Erin Redden finished 3-for-4 with a run scored and Benjamin and Nasir each had two hits.
Game Two (W/8-6)
After exchanging runs in the bottom of the first and top of the second inning both teams exploded for five runs in the third inning as the game remained tied at six. Nasir had an RBI double in the second inning and hit a three-run home run in the third. Redden also had an RBI hit in the third.
DSU took the lead for good in the fourth as Beaumont doubled home Redden and got an insurance run in the sixth on another RBI double from Beaumont.
Hill earned the win, the second of the season, pitching four shutout innings of relief, scattering seven hits and striking out one. Junior
Andrea Artesani started but re-entered to earn her first save of the year getting all three outs in the seventh.
Redden had two more hits and scored twice, Beaumont was 4-for-4 with three RBIs, and Nasir finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Freshman
Emma Izzo also had two hits.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday when they host FDU-Florham in a MAC Freedom doubleheader beginning at Noon.
