Softball Drops Two to FDU-Florham, 7-4 and 7-6

Center Valley, PA (April 2, 2017) - The DeSales University softball got tying runs late in game two twice but was unable to climb all the way back dropping both ends of a MAC Freedom doubleheader to FDU-Florham on Sunday afternoon, 7-4 and 7-6 (9 innings).

Game One (L/4-7)
DeSales (7-9, 1-3 MAC Freedom) got two runs in the third inning to take a 2-0 lead on an RBI double from sophomore Madeline Nasir and RBI single from sophomore Sunny Greenberg before FDU (5-13, 2-2 MAC Freedom) took control with two in the fourth, two in the fifth, and three in the sixth to take a 7-2 lead.

The Bulldogs climbed to within three (7-4) with two tallies in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI single from freshman Madison Coughlin and sacrifice fly from sophomore Carly Benjamin but were unable to get any closer in the loss.

Junior Hailey Warner suffered the loss allowing four earned runs over 5 1/3 innings pitched, striking out five.  Nasir had two of DSU's nine hits.

Game Two (L/6-7 - 9 innings)
FDU lead 2-0 after three and a half innings before DSU tied it at two in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single from freshman Madison Sias and a sacrifice fly from junior Andrea Artesani.  The Devils tacked on solo runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to lead 5-2 entering the bottom of the seventh but DeSales rallied with three runs to tie the game and force extra innings.  Sophomore Leann Panconi had a two-run home run and junior Haley Frati knocked in the tying run with a two-out single.

Florham got a run in the top of the eighth but the Bulldogs again tied it on an RBI single from freshman Erin Redden, but in the top of the ninth FDU scored once again to take a 7-6 lead and DSU was unable to come up with a tying run this time falling 7-6.

Warner took the loss again pitching two innings of relief allowing just one run and striking out three.

Redden, Benjamin, and Sias each had two hits to lead a nine hit attack.  Senior Alexa Beaumont scored twice in the loss.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Tuesday when they host local rival Moravian College in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:30 pm.
