Artesani Leads Softball to DH Split at Muhlenberg

Allentown, PA (April 5, 2017) - Junior Andrea Artesani pitched seven strong innings in game one leading the DeSales University softball team past local rival Muhlenberg College, 5-1, before dropping game two, 7-0, in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon.

Game One (W/5-1)
Artesani allowed just four hits and one unearned run over seven innings, striking out five to lead the Bulldogs (8-10 overall).  She retired the side in order four times including in each of the last two innings in the win.

DSU jumped out early offensively scoring twice in the first and second innings on an RBI double from sophomore Carly Benjaminwho came around to score on a wild pitch in the first and RBI singles from senior Alexa Beaumont and sophomore Leann Panconi in the second frame.

The Mules (6-10) got one run back in the fourth but DeSales reclaimed the four run lead in the fifth on an RBI ground out from junior Haley Frati.

Freshman Emma Izzo had two of DSU's eight hits and Benjamin scored twice in the game one win.

Game Two (L/0-7)
Muhlenberg controlled game two scoring twice in the second, third, and fourth innings to open up a 6-0 lead and DeSales was never able to get anything going offensively managing just one hit, a one-out single from Artesani in the third inning the game two loss.

Junior Hailey Warner took the loss allowing eight hits and four earned runs over four innings pitched, striking out two.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to be back in action on Saturday when they continue MAC Freedom play hosting King's College in a home doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
