Softball Splits Two Wild Games on Day Two of Spring Trip

Kissimmee, FL (March 6, 2017) - The DeSales University erased a five-run deficit in its first game and gave up a five-run lead in its second game of day two of the Bulldogs spring trip to Florida on Monday afternoon.

Game One (W/8-7 vs. Lakeland)
DSU (2-4) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a sacrifice fly from sophomore Madeleine Nasir but then gave up one run in the bottom of the inning and then committed five straight errors to start the third inning leading to four unearned runs for Lakeland as it took a 6-1 lead after four innings.

The Bulldogs cut into the lead with two runs in the fifth inning on an RBI groundout from Nasir and sacrifice fly from senior Alexa Beaumont and took a 7-6 advantage in the sixth on an RBI single from freshman Erin Redden, a two-RBI double from junior Haley Frati, and RBI single from Beaumont, the 100th hit of her career.

Lakeland answered tying the game in the bottom of the sixth inning but DeSales had four straight singles to start the top of the seventh with the last coming off the bat of freshman Emma Izzo knocking in fellow freshman Alexa Marasheski with the eventual winning run.

Junior Hailey Warner earned the win pitching 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief striking out five batters, including the side in order in the seventh.

Redden finished with three hits and three runs scored, Frati, Nasir, and Beaumont each had two RBIs and Izzo was 3-for-4 with two runs scored to lead the offense.

Game Two (L/5-6 vs. Bridgewater)
The Bulldogs jumped out early in this one scoring twice in the first on a two-RBI double from Beaumont and three times in the second on a two-RBI triple from Frati and RBI single from Nasir to lead 5-0.

Junior Andrea Artesani was cruising along holding BC (2-4) to just three hits over the first five innings as DSU continued to lead by five runs (5-0) entering the sixth inning.

Bridgewater struck for three runs in the top of the sixth and completed the comeback four hits in the top of the seventh to take a 6-5 lead and the Bulldogs had just three base runners over the final four innings.
