Defense Leads Men's Lacrosse past Manhattanville, 8-4

Purchase, NY (April 13, 2017) - For the fifth time this season the DeSales Unversity men's lacrosse team has held the opposition to five or less goals, improving to 5-0 in those games, in an 8-4 win over Manhattanville College in MAC Freedom action on Thursday evening.

The Bulldogs (5-5, 2-1 MAC Freedom) dominated the stat sheet holding a 31-19 advantage in shots, a 38-23 edge in ground balls, and won 10-of-15 face-offs for the game.  DSU was also an impressive 21-for-24 in clears and forced 21 Valiant (5-5, 1-2 MAC Freedom) turnovers.

After both teams scored once in the first quarter, the Bulldogs scored the only two goals in the second quarter and had the first tally of the third quarter to open up a 4-1 lead and MVC never got any closer than two goals the rest of the way.

It was a 6-4 game late in the fourth quarter when freshman Eric Magro put the game on ice scoring with 3:29 to go on an assist from junior Josh Harman on a play set-up in the midfield by freshman Frank Krug who broke a double team on a clear to force an uneven transition opportunity that Magro put away for the exclamation point.

Magro finished with a team-high three goals, while senior Justin Wilson had two goals and an assist.  Harman finished with one goal and two assists and sophomores John Ramos and Tom Pryor each had one goal.  Senior Tyler Newman and freshman Justin Monaghan each had an assist.

Krug was once again sensational in the defensive midfield picking up six ground balls and forcing five turnovers.  Senior Sean Palen had seven ground balls on defense and senior Jake McNamara won 10-of-15 face-offs with nine ground balls in the win.  Sophomore Matt Barry had seven saves in between the pipes.

The Bulldogs are off this weekend for the Easter holiday but will return to action on Wednesday, April 19th when they host Wilkes University in another MAC Freedom game beginning at 7:00 pm.
