Softball Suffers Losses at Eastern, 2-1 and 3-1

St. David's, PA (April 13, 2017) - The DeSales University softball team suffered two defeats on Thursday afternoon falling to Eastern University by scores of 2-1 and 3-1 in MAC Freedom action.

Game One (L/1-2)
Eastern (5-21, 2-8 MAC Freedom) got solo runs in the first and second innings, both unearned runs, on just two hits, two walks, and three Bulldog errors to take a 2-0 lead.

The Bulldogs (9-17, 2-6 MAC Freedom) struggled at the plate with just two batters reaching base thru the first six innings before mounting a late seventh inning rally.  Sophomore Leann Panconi doubled with two outs and sophomore Madeleine Nasir singled her home but freshman Madison Coughlin popped out to third to end the threat and the game.

Junior Andrea Artesani took the hard luck loss allowing two unearned runs over six innings and just three hits.  Panconi had two of DSU's four hits.

Game Two (L/1-3)
Eastern broke open a scoreless game in the third inning scoring three times on four hits.

DSU again struggled to get anything going offensively thru the first six innings with just two runners reaching second base both of which were stranded.

The Bulldogs again rallied in the seventh as senior Alexa Beaumont singled  and sophomore Sunny Greenberg eventually knocked her in with a sacrifice fly.  After sophomore Carly Benjamin singled to put runners on first and second with two outs, senior Katie Bearn pinch hit but grounded out to third base to end the threat.

Beaumont finished with two hits to lead the offense.  Junior Hailey Warner took the loss allowing seven hits over six innings, striking out four.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday when they host Delaware Valley University in a MAC Freedom doubleheader beginning at 11:00 am.
