Softball Stays in Playoff Hunt with Sweep of Delaware Valley

Center Valley, PA (April 15, 2017) - The DeSales University softball team kept itself in the hunt for a spot in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament sweeping Delaware Valley University, 7-0 and 9-1, in a conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.

Game One (W/7-0)
DSU scored a run in each of the first five innings to take a 7-0 lead and junior Andrea Artesani tossed a five-hit shutout, striking out seven in the win.

Senior Alexa Beaumont knocked in freshman Erin Redden with the game's first run in the first inning and Redden singled home freshman Alexa Marasheski in the second inning for a 2-0 lead.

DSU got two more runs in the third inning on RBI groundouts from Marasheski and Artesani and two more in the fourth on back-to-back RBI doubles from Beaumont and sophomore Leann Panconi.  Redden capped off the scoring with her second RBI single of the game in the fifth.

Redden and Beaumont each finished with three hits and two RBIs to lead the offensive attack.

Game Two (W/9-1)
The Bulldogs broke the second game open early scoring five times in the first inning on a sacrifice fly from Beaumont, a two-RBI single from junior Hailey Warner, and a two-run home run from freshman Madison Coughlin.

Marasheski made it a 6-0 game with solo home run in the third inning and ended the game in the fifth with three runs on an RBI single from senior Shannon McCann and game-ending two-RBI single from junior Haley Frati.

Warner earned the win in the circle allowing four hits and one run, striking out five, in five innings of work.  Frati led the offensive attack with three hits and two RBIs. Redden, Marasheski, and Artesani each had two hits, and Warner and Coughlin both knocked in two runs in the win.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Monday when they travel to Lebanon Valley College for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 2:30 pm.
