Baseball Wins Slugfest, 14-11, over Ursinus; Smash 20 Hits in Win

Center Valley, PA (April 17, 2017) - The DeSales University baseball team collected 20 hits and scored 11 runs over the first two innings in a 14-11 win over Ursinus College in non-conference action on Monday afternoon at Butz Field.

The Bulldogs (15-12) took control of this one early scoring twice in the first inning on a Bear error and RBI single from sophomore Tommy Epsaro.  DSU broke the game open early in the second inning scoring nine times to take an 11-0 lead.

Senior Tommy DePaul, junior Hunter Hart, sophomore Preston Amato, Epsaro, freshman Sergio Diaz, and junior Conner Lafferty all had RBIs, led by DePaul with three, in the big inning.

Ursinus clawed back into the game with one run in the third and four in the fourth to pull within 11-5.

DSU added solo tallies in the fifth (sac fly from Lafferty), sixth (freshman Jamie Bavaro doubled and scored on Bear error), and seventh (RBI single from senior Pat Rhoads), before Ursinus got three in the seventh and three more in the ninth to post the final tally.

DePaul finished with three hits, three RBIs, and two runs scored, Hart had two hits, two runs, and two RBIs, and Epsaro had three hits, two RBIs, and two runs scored.  Lafferty was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, freshman Alex Condello finished 3-for-5 with two runs scored in his first career start, and Bavaro and Diaz each had two hits in the win.

Freshman Ryan Passaro earned the win in relief pitching three solid innings of relief of junior Jack Moore.

Lafferty earns TW Cooper Insurance Player of the Game honors reaching base four times.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Rutgers-Newark for a non-conference game set to begin at 3:30 pm.
