Softball Drops Two at Manhattanville, 9-6 and 5-1

Purchase, NY (April 22, 2017) - The DeSales University softball dropped both ends of a MAC Freedom doubleheader falling at Manhattanville College, 9-6 and 5-1, on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

Game One (L/6-9)
The Bulldogs (11-23, 4-8 MAC Freedom) out early in game one scoring once in the second on an RBI single from junior Andrea Artesani and once in the third on an RBI single from senior Alexa Beaumont, before the Valiants (21-9, 12-0 MAC Freedom) reclaimed the lead with three runs in the fourth inning.

DSU wasted no time reclaiming the lead with two runs in the top of the fifth on an RBI single from freshman Madison Coughlin and a Valiant error.  MVC tied the game in the bottom of the fifth but but another RBI single from Beaumont and a bases loaded walk by Coughlin pushed DeSales up 6-4 after five and a half innings.

Manhattanville then took control exploding for five runs in the bottom of the sixth and DeSales went in order in the top of the seventh.

Freshman Erin Redden had two hits and two runs scored, sophomore Carly Benjamin had two hits, Beaumont finished with two hits and two RBIs, and Coughlin also knocked in two to lead the offensive charge.  Junior Haley Frati scored twice.

Artesani took the loss allowing three runs over one inning of relief of junior starter Hailey Warner who allowed four runs over five innings, striking out seven.

Game Two (L/1-5)
The Valiants jumped out quickly in game two scoring three runs in the first inning, hitting two home runs.  The Bulldogs scored once in the second inning to get within two on an RBI groundout from sophomore Sunny Greenberg, but MVC scored twice more in the third and DSU was unable to threaten offensively the rest of the game.

Benjamin had two more hits to lead a six-hit attack.

Warner took the loss allowing three runs on two hits in one third of an inning of work

The Bulldogs are back in action on Wednesday, April 26th when they host Centenary University in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:30 pm.
