Adam Donovan and sophomore
Austin Kroeger allowed just four hits and one run leading the DeSales University baseball team past Misericordia University 6-1 in the first game of the three game weekend set on Friday afternoon at Butz Field.
Donovan retired the side in order three times and pitched into the seventh inning where Kroeger came in and retired all eight batters he faced to record his first save of the year. Donovan walked three and struck out two over 6 1/3 innings to earn his third win of the season.
DSU (19-14, 12-4 MAC Freedom) took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a sacrifice fly from freshman
Sergio Diaz and an RBI single from senior
Richie Lancashire. The Cougars (23-9, 13-3 MAC Freedom) got one run back in the top of the third inning as the score remained 2-1 into the bottom of the seventh inning.
In the bottom of the seventh the Bulldogs got into Misericordia's bullpen scoring four times on a two-RBI single from sophomore
Preston Amato and a two-RBI double from senior
Tyler Sweeney and Kroeger did the rest.
Sweeney and Lancashire each had two hits as part of a six-hit attack.
Donovan earns
TW Cooper Insurance Player of the Game honors with his third win of the season.
The Bulldogs wrap-up the three-game set tomorrow at Misericordia with first pitch for the doubleheader set for 1:00 pm.
