Poor Second-Half Dooms Men's Lacrosse in 12-8 Loss at Eastern

St. David's, PA (April 8, 2017) - The DeSales University men's lacrosse let a three-goal halftime lead slip away as Eastern University scored eight straight goals to start the second-half in a 12-8 win in MAC Freedom action on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (4-5, 1-1 MAC Freedom) controlled play in the first-half, out-shooting, winning more face-offs, and picking up more ground balls than the Eagles (6-6, 1-1 MAC Freedom) to take a 6-3 lead into the half.  DSU scored the first two goals of the game and led 4-1 after the first quarter.  EU pulled to within two goals with 30 seconds left in the second quarter before senior Justin Wilson scored with just five seconds left sending the Bulldogs into the locker room with all the momentum and a three-goal lead.

Eastern, however, regrouped at the half and came out firing scoring eight straight goals including the only four goals scored in the third quarter, to take a commanding 11-6 lead before DSU finally got back on the board with 7:55 left to play, pulling within three (11-8) before EU posted the final four-goal tally.

Junior Bryan Weber and Wilson each had two goals in the loss.  Junior Josh Harman had one goal and two assists and senior Tyler Newman finished with a goal and an assist.  Senior Jake McNamara and freshman Justin Monaghan each had a goal, while freshman Eric Magro and sophomore Tommy Friedman each had an assist.

McNamara won 12-of-24 face-offs and had a team-high six ground balls, while freshman Frank Krug totaled five ground balls and two caused turnovers.  Sophomore Matt Barry made 11 saves in net.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Thursday when they travel to Manhattanville College for another MAC Freedom game beginning at 7:00 pm.
