Softball Drops Two at Montclair State

Montclair, NJ (April 9, 2017) - The DeSales University softball team dropped both ends of a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon falling at Montclair State by scores of 8-4 and 10-1.

Game One (L/4-8)
After MSU (14-10) took a 3-0 lead in the first inning of game one, DSU (9-13) answered three unearned runs of its own in the second inning to tie the game at three.  DeSales did not have a hit in the inning, taking advantage of three Red Hawk errors and a hit batter to score its three runs.

Montclair answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame to reclaim the lead and added three more in the fourth to take an 8-3 lead.  The Bulldogs got one back in the fifth to provide the final tally.

Freshman Shannon Hill took the loss allowing five earned over four innings pitched and junior Hailey Warner pitched well in relief allowing just one hit and striking out three over the final two frames.  Senior Alexa Beaumont had two runs scored in the game one loss.

Game Two (L/1-10)
Montclair got one run in the first and three in third to take a 4-0 lead before DSU got one back in the fourth on an RBI single from sophomore Adrianna Barone, but the Red Hawks scored six times in the fourth to break it open and complete the sweep.

Sophomore Leann Panconi took the loss allowing seven earned over three innings pitched.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to be back in action on Tuesday when they host local rival Moravian College in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:30 pm.
