Amber Achenbach earned a three-set win at No. 3 singles clinching the fifth point for the DeSales University women's tennis team in a 5-4 win over Eastern University in the MAC Freedom semifinals on Wednesday afternoon.
DSU (17-2) fell behind early dropping two of the three doubles matches earning a win at No. 1 position from Achenbach and junior
Kelly Nguyen.
The Bulldogs dropped both the No. 1 and 2 singles matches but swept the final four singles matches to earn the win.
Seniors
Shannon O'Malley and
Melissa Tucker won 6-3, 6-3 and 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 4 and 5 spot and freshman
Sarah Chan earned a 6-3, 6-4 win at the No. 6 spot leaving just Achenbach left on the court with the score tied at four.
Achenbach took the first set, 6-1, but dropped the second set, 6-4. She recovered, however, dominating the third set for a 6-0 win to clinch the playoff win.
DSU advances to the MAC Freedom Championship match at top seeded Wilkes University on Saturday with match time set to be announced.
