Angelica Bertola scored three goals and freshman
Rachel Medlar added a goal and four assists leading the DeSales University women's soccer team past Lancaster Bible College, 7-0, in the 2017 season opener on Friday afternoon.
Bertola opened the scoring 9:49 into the game taking a pass from Medlar down the right side, side stepping a defender into the middle of the field, and firing a shot inside the far post for the season's first tally.

Bernadette Haponski scored her first career marker, pouring in a shot from the top of the box after Medlar dropped a pass back to a wide open Haponski. Medlar got into the scoring action 2:38 later finishing off the first-half scoring taking a pass through the Charger defense from sophomore
Sophie Goad on the right side of the box and blasting a shot inside the far post for a 3-0 Bulldog lead.
Bertola and Medlar teamed up again just 3:57 into the second-half giving DSU a 4-0 lead and Goad netted her first career tally just 1:14 later taking control of a loose ball on a failed LBC clear.
Bertola and Medlar connected for the third time in the 57th minute on a pass over the top that Bertola tracked down and beat the charging keeper low and senior
Gabby Lucchese capped off the scoring in the 69th minute on assists from freshman

Haley Jacobs only needed to make one save in recording her first shutout of the season.
The Bulldogs out-shot the Chargers, 19-4, for the game and held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks. It is the fifth time in Bertola's career she has netted three or more goals in a game.
DeSales returns to action on Sunday when they travel to New Jersey City University for a non-conference contest set to begin at 4:00 pm.
