Bertola Records Second Straight Hat Trick; Women's Soccer Rolls past NJCU, 8-1

Jersey City, NJ (September 3, 2017) - Senior Angelica Bertola (East Stroudsburg, PA, Notre Dame) recorded her second straight hat trick this weekend leading the DeSales University women's soccer team to another lopsided win, 8-1, at New Jersey City University on Sunday afternoon.

Bertola wasted no time getting DSU on top scoring just 19 seconds into the game on a feed from freshman Rachel Medlar and made it a 2-0 game just 3:06 into the game scoring on an assist from freshman Bernadette Haponski.

Freshman Gabby Rojas then got into the scoring action scoring unassisted in the 16th minute and Bertola recorded her hat trick just 2:07 after Rojas' goal off another assist from Medlar to make it a 4-0 game.

Rojas and Haponski combined for DSU's fifth tally of the game at 25:18 and sophomore Barbara Pizarro scored her first of the season giving DeSales a 6-0 lead 38:04 into the game.

The Gothic Knights found the back of their net in the 40th minute as the score stood at 6-1 entering the halftime break.

Pizarro added a second tally off an assist from junior Caroline Nealon in the 77th minute and Haponski netted an unassisted tally in the 88th minute to cap off the scoring.

Everyone in uniform got into the game and no started played more than 72 minutes with the exception of freshman Lia Gaccione who earned her first career shutout in her first career game in between the pipes.

DSU dominated play out-shooting NJCU, 19-5, and taking the only four corner kicks of the game.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Wednesday when they host Albright College in a non-conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
