Men's Soccer Blitzes Gwynedd-Mercy ,5-0, for Fourth Straight Win

Center Valley, PA (September 12, 2017) - The DeSales University men's soccer team put five balls in the net recording its fourth straight win over Gwynedd-Mercy University on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.

The five goals are the most in game for the Bulldogs since October 20, 2015 win over Delaware Valley University.  DSU has now won four straight, its longest winning streak since winning five straight during the 2013 season.

Sophomore Javaughn Hussett (Whitehall, PA) opened the scoring when junior Michael Kirby (Bensalem, PA) threw a ball into senior Charlie Jerry (Emmaus, PA) who immediately crossed a pass into the box and Hussett was there to knock the cross into the net.  That was the lone goal of the first-half as DSU held a 1-0 lead at the break.

It took the Bulldogs just 49 seconds to get their second goal as freshman Sean Tunney (Clondalkin, Ireland) navigated around a defender in the midfield and fired a shot into the net from about 10 yards outside the box.  Kirby then scored unassisted at 57:35 shooting a ball from the endline that caromed off the Griffin (0-5) goalkeeper and into the net.

Junior Alex DiRienzo (Newark, DE) made it a 4-0 game when freshman Cooper Moyer (Doylestown, PA/) touched a pass over to him in the box and DiRienzo scored from point blank range in the 74th minute and Moyer capped off the scoring with his first career goal scoring on a rebound off a saved shot off the foot of freshman Mark Stenske (Allentown, PA).

Senior Dan Sulpizio (Philadelphia, PA) and freshman TJ Corcoran (Philadelphia, PA) combined on the shutout as Sulpizio made the only save of the game.  DeSales out-shot GMU, 26-4, and had a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday when they host Clark Summit University beginning at 4:00 pm.
