Field Hockey Drops Heartbreaker, 2-1, to Arcadia in Second OT

Center Valley, PA (September 13, 2017) - The DeSales University field hockey team fought back with the tying goal with just under 11 minutes left but were unable to scratch out a win falling to Arcadia University, 2-1, in two overtimes on Wednesday evening.

AU (4-1) scored the game's first goal 12:50 into the contest as Lindsay Bechtold slapped in a centering pass from Gabby Sedares and that score stood into the half.

It remained a one-goal lead into the 60th minute when junior Chelsea DeFrancisco (Bethlehem, PA) tipped a loose ball on the post for her first marker of the year tying the game at one and eventually sending the game into overtime.

After neither team scored in the first OT period, DSU had a golden opportunity with about three minutes left when AU's keeper received a green card and the Knights were forced to play a field player in goal unable to sub during a corner.

The Bulldogs had three consecutive corners but were unable to get a hard shot off before Arcadia finally cleared the ball and with under a minute left the Knights received a corner and Lauren Dougherty was able to push across the game-winner off an assist from Isabelle Houser with 42 seconds left.

DSU had a 23-14 advantage in shots and a 16-12 edge in penalty corners.  Sophomore Katarina Polyviou (Cranford, NJ) made six saves in goal.

The Bulldogs are right back to action on Saturday when they host WIlliam Paterson University with game time set for 1:00 pm.
