Sophie Goad (Reading, PA) scored twice in the first-half leading the DeSales University women's soccer team past Alvernia University, 4-2, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.
Goad scored both her goals late in the first-half giving DSU a 2-0 halftime lead. Â The first came off a beautiful thru ball from senior
Gabby Lucchese (Gilbert, PA) with 3:14 left in the half where Goad took one touch and beat a charging goalkeeper. Â The second came with just five second left in the half as she jumped on a loose ball and fired a shot that bounced high over the keeper and into the net.
Freshman
Rachel Medlar (Coplay, PA) made it 3-0 Bulldogs 12:07 into the second half when she scored from about five yards outside the box unassisted.
Alvernia (2-3-1) got back into the game scoring twice in a span of eight minutes to get within a goal at 3-2 before senior
Angelica Bertola (East Stroudsburg, PA) iced the win scoring on a rebound of a saved shot from sophomore
Sydney Amato (East Rockaway, NY) with 1:40 left to play.
Freshman
Lia Gaccione (Sparta, NJ) made one save in net as DSU out-shot Alvernia, 28-3, and had a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Bulldogs are back on the pitch on Wednesday when they travel to Lebanon Valley University for a 4:00 pm start time.
