Volleyball Splits Tri-Match at Muhlenberg

Allentown, PA (September 23, 2017) - The DeSales University volleyball team split a tri-match at Muhlenberg College on Saturday falling to the host Mules just after defeating Dickinson College.

Match #1 (W/3-1 vs. Dickinson)
DSU earned 25-19 wins in each of the first two sets before dropping a close third set, 25-23.  The fourth set was tight as well before the Bulldogs were able to pull it out, 26-24.  DSU played great defense in the match recording 110 digs and posting eight team blocks.

Junior Gabby Savite` (Hackettstown, NJ) led the attack with 17 kills and added 22 digs, while freshman Noel Kelly (Saylorsburg, PA) finished with 11 kills.  Sophomore Morghan Shoemaker (Allentown, PA) had seven kills, 11 digs, and four blocks and junior Natalie Gray (Aston, PA) was terrific in the back row totaling 28 digs.  Freshman Julia Bradford (Mertztown, PA) finished with 41 assists and 15 digs in the win.

Match #2 (L/2-3 vs. Muhlenberg)
The host won sets one and three, while DeSales took sets two and four setting up a fifth an decisive set.  Tied at seven, Muhlenberg won three straight points to take a 10-7 lead and the Bulldogs never really recovered from that mini run.

Kelly finished with a team-high 14 kills, Shoemaker added 12 skills, and Savite` posted a double-double with 12 kills and 25 digs.  Freshman Grace Merritt (Newark, DE) had nine kills, Bradford totaled 48 assists and 12 digs, and Gray recorded 23 digs in the loss.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Eastern University for an important MAC Freedom showdown beginning at 7:00 pm.
