Bertola Nets 100th Career Point in 5-1 Win over Muhlenberg

Center Valley, PA (September 26, 2017) - Senior Angelica Bertola (East Stroudsburg, PA) recorded her 100th career point with one goal and two assists leading the DeSales University women's soccer team past Muhlenberg College, 5-1, in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon.

Bertola scored the game's first goal just 5:49 into the game out husting the Mules (2-5-2) defense to a loose ball in the box and firing a shot into the net.  It was her 11th goal of the season and the 41st of her career giving her 99 career points and was the only goal of the half giving DSU a 1-0 lead.

Bertola then connected on a beautiful goal with sophomore Sophie Goad (Reading, PA) 10:49 into the second-half for her 100th career point. Goad fed Bertola streaking down the right sideline and she dribbled into box, drew a defender, and sent a pass back to Goad in front of the net and she finished the centering pass with a one-timer into the net.

Muhlenberg cut the margin in half with its only tally of the game at 60:11 when Casarah Morales fired a shot just under the crossbar from about 30 yards out off a corner feed from Carly Denigris.

The Bulldogs answered right back though scoring at 63:49 when Goad was in the right spot as a centering pass from junior Erin Crystal (Parsippany, NJ) glanced off a defender right to Goad who slotted a shot low and just wide of the keeper into the net.

Sophomore Sydney Amato (East Rockaway, NY) made it 4-0, taking a pass from Bertola on the right side and firing a shot past a charging keeper that caromed off the far post and into the net giving Bertola her 101st career point and freshman Anja Wilson (Chesterfield, VA) scored her first career goal with 2:34 to go providing the final margin knocking home a free ball into the box off the foot of sophomore Claire Bassetti (Glenside, PA).

Freshman Lia Gaccione (Sparta, NJ) made one save in net and DSU out-shot Muhlenberg, 10-7, in the game.  The Mules had a 4-3 advantage on corner kicks.

Bertola becomes the third player in team history with 100 career points joining DSU Hall of Famer Jeneen Covely and Brady Walsh.

DeSales is back in action on Saturday when they open MAC Freedom play hosting FDU-Florham on homecoming beginning at 1:00 pm.
